The older and the middle sons dismiss their requests, but the youngest son is willing to help them. When they reach the old woman, she asks them to put their hands in a big pot and take something out. They each take out a bird, but the youngest son's bird is very small. They return to their father and he asks them to show him what they brought. The youngest son has released his bird. The father decides to make him chief, because he shows the most kindness.
