A troubled young man has a series of dreams in which he is a combat soldier in the South African Bush War, where he meets his father at the same age. Getting to know him gives the son insight and compassion, and he is able to let go of life-long feelings of abandonment and anger, which leads to forgiveness and a real-life reconciliation. My Father's War follows the journey of reconciliation between a father trained to handle war's worst circumstances but unqualified in his parenting. His son is unable to comprehend or forgive his father for the choices he has made and for the regime he fought for.
