In the series 'Coming Home', Judith Dunbar (Emily Mortimer)'s parents leave England to start a new life in Singapore, sending Judith to boarding school. On her arrival she makes friends with the carefree and fun-loving Loveday Carey-Lewis (Katie Ryder Richardson) and the two become close friends. Loveday soon introduces Judith to her glamourous and wealthy family, complete with a collection of interesting and bohemian friends. When Judith's eccentric guardian dies, the Carey-Lewis' become her surrogate family and Judith finds the next few years the most joyous of her life. She is unaware, however, that the spectre of war hangs over everything she holds dear. In the series 'Nancherrow', Loveday inherits the ancestral home of Nancherrow when her father, the Colonel, passes on. She is immediately beset by problems as she attempts to put the estate back on an even keel in order that her son, Nat (Josh Wynter/Jake Gomme), can eventually succeed her. In 'Winter Solstice' (2003) Elfrida Phipps

Cusack) has recently lost her husband. Moving into a new cottage she begins to make friends with her neighbours, the Blundell family. Joined by her niece Carrie (Sophie Schütt) Elfrida seems to be putting her life back in order, a process that is interrupted when a tragic accident befalls the Blundells. As they all retreat to a Scottish estate for Christmas to get over their grief, a chance acquaintance from Carrie's past and a sense of belonging that the friends thought they had lost forever leads to the best Christmas of their lives. In 'Summer Solstice' (2005) the lives of separate individuals become intertwined in the town of Cregean in the Scottish Highlands. Set three years on from the sequence of events in 'Winter Solstice' (2003), the ex-actress Elfrida has finally found a peaceful and tranquil life with her partner Oscar (Jan Niklas). For the people around them, however, their lives are about to be turned upside down when a libel case causes a ripple effect of scandal and shock within the community. What will become of what was once a harmonious existence? In the miniseries 'Four Seasons', the story unfolds over summer, autumn, winter and spring as the

family experience trying times when the management of their vast estate, Endellion, comes under scrutiny while the return of an unwanted guest invites further upheaval. In the miniseries 'The Shell Seekers', after suffering a minor heart attack Penelope Keeling (Vanessa Redgrave) takes time to reflect on her life so far; heartbreak, three estranged children and an unhappy marriage have all taken their toll. When her daughter's lover Cosmo (Sebastian Koch) brings his daughter Antonia (Stephanie Stumph) to stay, Penelope learns that she has fallen for the mysterious Danus (Lukas Gregorowicz). Seeing the relationship as doomed, Penelope believes she must learn from her mistakes if the heartbreak and loss she suffered with her wartime lover are not to be repeated. Finally in 'September' (1995) Verena Steynton (Judy Parfitt) decides to hold a party for her daughter and invite the most upper-class families from all over the Highlands of Scotland, but she gets more than she bargained for when her guests bring with them their deepest, darkest secrets.
